If you believe the Bible and are sincerely striving to live by the teachings in it, you are among the most blessed of people on earth. I think it is more accurate to say, ‘you are among the only God-blessed people on earth’. For the Bible, and only the Bible, contains the way of life that brings God’s blessings on the believer.
This is not the place for me to show you proof that the Bible is the only source of God’s Word. That I will do in another place for those who are still new to the Bible. For this message I presume that every reader already believes the Bible is the only source of God’s truth for his people today.
Since you believe that the Bible is the only book by which God reveals his truths to you, then you would also be eager to understand a few facts about the Bible you probably do not know. Later I would like to show you a few vital truths that are in the Bible which you may not have known earlier.
The division of the Bible into Old Testament and New Testament is a manmade division. The ancient Jews divided the Old Testament into certain sections for use in the synagogue service, and then at a later period, in the ninth century AD, into verses. To these sections, the early Church Fathers added the books of the New Testament. The modern system of chapters for all the books of the Bible is ascribed variously to Cardinal Hugo of Saint Cher and to Stephen Langton, archbishop of Canterbury, about the middle of the thirteenth century. The modern verse division in the New Testament is the work of Robert Stephen, a Paris printer of the 16th century.
The books of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation are one continuous revelation from God, and they are referred to as the ‘Holy Scriptures’ in the New Testament. There has been a great conspiracy since Apostolic times by the enemies of Christ to prevent the common people from getting hold of the Bible. But starting with the Protestant and English Reformations in the 16th century, and continuing through the introduction of mass printing of the Bible, the common people began to be able to understand the Bible on their own.
The conspiracy to prevent the common man from getting hold of a copy of the Bible failed. But Satan has succeeded to this very day in several other conspiracies involving the Bible.
Conspiracy Against the Old Testament
Christians in general, especially those from the mainstream denominations, consider the Old Testament of historical value only. For them, the Old Testament is part of the Old Covenant and therefore not applicable for those under the New Covenant. Books such as Psalms and Proverbs, however, seem to be valued almost as much as the books in the New Testament (which is why you can purchase a ‘Bible’ containing just the New Testament with Psalms and Proverbs tagged along at the end).
The prophecies in Isaiah and the other prophetic books are quoted by a very few preachers as God’s urgent warnings for today and the coming years, but the vast majority of the preachers in Christendom believe these prophecies were fulfilled thousands of years ago and have no relevance for today.
It is the one of the earnest missions of my ministry to show you that the entire Old Testament is as valid for application in Christian life today as it was in the Old Testament days. What has been changed in the New Testament era is not the truths in the Old Testament, but the symbols which pointed to the reality of Christ.
The law of symbolic sacrifices, ablutions and offerings were not abolished with the sacrifice of Christ, but they were made even more meaningful and binding by being kept in the spirit by Christians. I repeat, not a single law was abolished, but the symbols used in keeping the law were replaced with even more stringent requirements. The Old Testament law relating to physical murder, for example, was now replaced with the New Testament law that forbids even the thought of anger against a person. Under the Old Covenant one can get away with adultery in his mind as long as he doesnt physically commit it. Under the New Covenant, one cannot even think of a woman in an impure way. Under the Old Covenant, circumcision meant just the cutting off of the foreskin, under the New Covenant circumcision involved the cutting off the entire human heart – a far more painful and far more binding experience. That’s the only difference between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant as far keeping God’s Law is concerned.
The New Covenant did not abolish but only reinforced and enlarged the laws in the Old Covenant. The Old Testament has 613 laws which the Israelites had to obey in the letter to avoid severe physical penalties, including the ultimate penalty of physical death. The New Testament has 1050 commands which Christians must obey in the spirit to avoid severe spiritual penalties, including the ultimate penalty of eternal death.
‘Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.’ Mt 5:17-19 NIV
The ‘law and the prophets’ were until John, says Jesus. The ‘law and the prophets’ as the Old Testament people understood them and observed them ended with the coming of John. Since then a whole new way was opened that made it possible for multitudes of people to rush into the Kingdom of God, which was previously restricted to a very few righteous people such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Daniel, and the other men of God mentioned in the books of the Old Testament.
The old symbolic keeping of the law was only until John, but the entire Scriptures from Genesis to Malachi is as valid for present day Christians as it was for those living under the Old Covenant.
‘All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.’ 2 Tm 3:16
At Paul’s time, the only Scriptures available were the books of the Old Testament books.
If you believe that the Old Testament teachings and prophecies are not valid for Christians today, you may still get into the Kingdom of God because of your sincere love for God through Christ and your obedience to him (although you may not recognize such obedience is actually the keeping of The 10 Commandments), but you will be considered by God and everyone else as the least among the heavenly citizens.
Do you want to be considered literally ‘great’ in the sight of Christ and the Father and all the heavenly host? Then let me urge you to love and keep with all your heart and might all the laws and statutes and precepts in the Old Testament in the spiritual way as demonstrated by Christ.
Do not fall into the trap of the Devil’s conspiracy against the Old Testament. If you are a Bible believer, the first word of Genesis until the last word of Revelation are all equally valid and binding on you.
The entire Scriptures from Genesis to Malachi is as valid for present day Christians as it was for those living under the Old Covenant.
Conspiracy Against the Prophecies
The Devil has conspired with his cohort of wicked spirits to blind Bible believers to the importance and imminence of the prophecies in the Bible.
I have heard one famous preacher say that the Bible is one-third prophecies, and that 90 percent of those prophecies are for today and the sooncoming years. I have not yet verified these figures, but I can state one thing with absolute conviction from my own study: the vast majority, perhaps even upto 99 percent, of the prophecies in the entire Bible are yet to be fulfilled, with a significant percentage of that already beginning to be fulfilled today.
God’s ways are very unique, very awesome, and very mysterious too, until the mystery is removed for us by Christ. One mystery that many Bible scholars havent been able to comprehend by their own efforts is the ‘duality’ principle in the Bible.
The duality principle applies to Biblical characters, laws, and prophecies.
There was a first Adam and there is a second Adam. There was a first Elijah and there was a second Elijah (John the Baptist) and there will be a third and fourth or even more Elijahs just before the return of Christ. (1 Matthew 17:11-12)
All the laws in the Bible have a dual application – in a limited physical way by keeping them in the letter, and in an infinite eternal way by keeping them in the spirit.
Almost all the prophecies have a dual fulfillment – one, the smaller archetype and the second, the far greater antitype. The events described in Daniel 11, for example, have already happened in history, but are surely going to happen again before the return of Christ.
Here is an interesting example of the duality principle of two historical characters in the 19th and 20th centuries. Actually, Napoleon and Hitler are the antitypes of similar characters in earlier history, and the archetypes of similar leaders who will emerge before the return of Christ.
Napoleon was born in 1760
Hitler was born in 1889
(129 years difference)
Napoleon was elected in 1804
Hitler was elected in 1933
(129 years difference)
Napoleon captured Vienna in 1809
Hitler captured Vienna in 1938
(129 years difference)
Napoleon attacked USSR in 1812
Hitler attacked USSR in 1941
(129 years difference)
Napoleon was defeated in 1816
Hitler was defeated in 1945
(129 years difference)
(I dont know yet of the significance of the 129 years difference.)
Here are two quotes I got from an internet search on similarities between them:
‘For believers in reincarnation – it is said that they were the same soul. They were also both believed to have ailurophobia, the fear of cats.’
‘Hitler and Napoleon were two men separated by a century and a quarter, yet their lives had a marked similarity and some people wonder whether they were kindred souls, separated by time. Some devout Hindus may also opine that Napoleon’s soul had transmigrated into Hitler’.
In fact, some of the prophecies have not just a dual fulfillment, but a multiple one.
Napoleon and Hitler were just two of the players in the prophetic events mentioned in the book of Daniel. There will rise again someone in the spirit of Napoleon or Hitler in the coming years and the same cycle of events that began thousands of years ago will be repeated again.
So when you read any prophecy in the Bible, remember that it may have yet another or several fulfillments beyond the initial fulfillment in past history.
Conspiracy Against the Book of Revelation
The book of Revelation is the most ununderstood and the most misunderstood book of the 66 books of the Bible. What God intended to be the most revelatory book in the Bible – the one book to reveal plainly the mysteries of God in chronological order – has become the most mysterious of all books not just in the Bible but in history. It is probably the book least referred to by those sermonizing from the pulpits, except perhaps for portions relating to the vision of the City of God…the golden streets, the pearly gates, and other such syrupy passages.
Apart from being the book that most reveals God’s plans for man in order, it is also the only book that carries God’s promise of a special blessing for reading and keeping those things written in that particular book. No other book has such a promise attached to it.
‘Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written in it; for the time is near.’ Rv 1:3
Satan certainly doesnt want you to read any of the books in the Bible, but he takes extra efforts to keep the last book in the Bible from being understood by God’s people. I think that’s because it is also the only book that shows what Satan’s final fate is, and the devil just can’t bear to think of anyone knowing it.
The entire prophecies in the Book of Revelation are meant for today and the sooncoming years. Not a single prophecy in this book has been completely fulfilled yet. So, whenever you open the last book of the Bible to study it in depth, be prepared for the most exciting revelations of your life – gifted to you directly by Jesus in his Word.
‘The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave Him to show His servants—things which must shortly take place.’ Rv 1:1
May God keep your mind and heart safe in Jesus Christ until the day of the Lord’s return.
